Facts About Grizzly Bears

The grizzly bear subspecies (Ursus arctos horribilis) is the common name for one of the brown bears (Ursus arctos). Grizzly bears are mainly solitary and territorial, except for mothers and their cubs. In January or February, female grizzly bears give birth to 1 to 4 cubs (usually 2). The female will care for her young inside the den until spring when they venture outside. When the cubs are about 2 ½ years old, they will separate from their mother.
