The Mesquite Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park cover quite a large area, especially when you have to hike all over them to find the composition you are looking for. One of the challenges in the dunes is getting a good foreground while remaining high enough on the dunes to capture the scene. The ripples in the sand provided the perfect answer. The stormy clouds over the mountains provided the perfect background.
