This photograph was taken in the winter, and the sun was striking Half Dome just right, lighting it up with the warm orange light of the setting sun.
I stood on the bridge over the Merced River, and waited for the late light on Half Dome. I was not expecting the clouds to form a "ring" around the mountain, encircling it like an accessory. For, what would have been an otherwise uninteresting photograph, the ring of clouds added something I did not see again during my 10 day winter expedition to the park.
