My Shore Bird Photography Experience
If I'm capturing photos of shore birds in flight, I get to stand as I track the birds with a medium-range telephoto lens. If the shore bird photos are of the birds on the beach, now I'm lying down in the dirt or sand to get to their eye level. Despite the effort of lying in the sand, I do like those photos better.
Facts About Shore Birds
The gull is one of more than 40 species of heavily built web-footed seabirds of the gull and tern family Laridae (order Charadriiformes). The herring gull (L. argentatus) is by far the most familiar of the Atlantic gulls. It has a gray mantle, flesh-colored legs and feet, and black-and-white-spotted wing tips. Another shore bird, the sandpiper belongs to the family Scolopacidae (order Charadriiformes), which also includes the woodcocks and the snipes. They are about 6 to 12 inches long.
