I was in Gold Canyon desert looking to photograph the sunset as the sun was setting to the northwest. What was happening there was underwhelming, but I have learned to look to see what is happening in other directions. To my delight, some pretty neat things were happening with the sky and mountains to the south.
The color in the cloud behind the cactus was the icing on the cake. I had to run around a bit to get the right composition, but that was a small price to pay when Plan B turns out to be better than what Plan A ever would have been.
