My Outer Banks Photography Experience
As someone who grew up on the water, I have always been attracted to beaches and ocean scenes. So, an extended photography expedition to the Outer Banks of North Carolina was just natural for me. As usual, I researched the possibilities before making the trip.
It took some hunting around to find nice sand dunes close to the beach, but I love hunting around. The Bodie Island and Roanoke Marshes Lighthouses required multiple trips to get the good skies and the cypress trees at Lake Matamuskeet were amazing. I’ll be going back again soon to photograph the wild horses and beach scenes up at Corolla. If you love being on the water, it’s a great place.
North Carolina Outer Banks Landscape Photography – Stunning Scenery
The Outer Banks (also called OBX) are a string of islands 200 miles long off the coast of North Carolina and include Cape Hatteras. The Outer Banks was where the Wright Brothers famously completed their first flight on December 17, 1903, at Kill Devil Hills.
Climate change has resulted in sea levels rising as much as 5 inches from 2011 to 2015, with some areas of Cape Hatteras being only 25% of their original width. The landscape photography opportunities are endless at the Outer Banks – due to the open spaces and the pristine beaches as well as sunset views at Duck, North Carolina, and dramatic views of the Roanoke Marshes and Bodie Island lighthouses.
