Experienced In Lighthouse Photography
I grew up on the water and have always been enchanted by lighthouses. They make for beautiful marine scenes and photographs. Every lighthouse is different and has its own surroundings and its own attraction.
The lighthouse scenes on the Atlantic Coast and the Pacific Coast have a different look to them due to the height of the rocky coasts that the lighthouses are perched on. It’s just a matter of finding a place to photograph them and whether to use a long exposure to smooth the water.
Photographing Lighthouses in the United States - Facts and Reflections
The history of lighthouses is a fascinating one. The first lighthouse of the North American continent was built in 1716 off the Boston coast. In 1776, there were 12 lighthouses in the United States. The newest shoreside lighthouse is Sullivan’s Island near Charleston, South Carolina (1962).
The first American lighthouse to use electricity was the Statue of Liberty in 1866. Today’s lighthouses use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to provide the guiding light. The lighthouse photos in this gallery reflect the variety of lighthouses in the United States.
They are not all cookie cutter in size or shape. Each lighthouse picture captures its uniqueness and without a doubt, lighthouses are one of my favorite subjects to photograph.
