My Personal Thoughts

Alaska was one of the first places I visited while photographing bears and other wildlife. I was immediately struck by the mountain scenes and knew I would also have to spend time there photographing landscapes. I have returned again and again.

Alaska photography locations from Kodiak Island and Lake Clark National Park in the South to Denali National Park to the Brooks Range to Barter Island on the north coast are part of this gallery of Alaska photos. I have spent over 150 days there on at least 15 trips. I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. More trips are in order.

Landscape Photography Print Buying Guide & Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose Fine Art Landscape Photography for Your Walls?

Fine art landscape photography prints offer unparalleled visual impact for interior design. These large-format wall art pieces create immediate conversation starters while bringing the serenity and grandeur of nature indoors.

There are many reasons to own a fine art landscape photography print but perhaps the most compelling reason is that artwork creates pleasure in your day-to-day life…… it touches the emotional side of you, inspires you, and can make the present moment more alive.

Our premium prints work exceptionally well in:

  • Living rooms as statement pieces above sofas or mantels
  • Bedrooms for creating calming, peaceful atmospheres
  • Office spaces to reduce stress and inspire creativity
  • Hallways and entryways for dramatic first impressions
  • Commercial spaces including hotels, restaurants, and medical offices

What is Fine Art Landscape Photography?

Fine Art Landscape Photography goes beyond the literal representation of a scene or subject. It must deeply express the photographer's feelings and clearly reveal that it was created by an artist, not just bythe camera.

The photograph must convey what the artist felt when they observed a particular scene. It is not an editorial capture of a moment in time. The photographer may use a variety of methods such as long exposures, wide-angle lenses, different depths of field, color, black and white, or other techniques to draw the viewer’s eye to a specific area of the photograph.

The camera, the processing of the raw image in software, and the amazing high-definition printers used today are tools to create the finished product of what the artist was seeing and feeling.

The artist’s expression could be anything from abstract images to small intimate scenes to large scenes capturing an entire mountain chain. In a large panoramic print.

My personal experience is that I don’t know how I am going to photograph a location or scene until I have been there a while and am able to take it all in. I look at multiple angles and options, and when I finally see through the viewfinder something that strikes me emotionally, I am then ready to take the photograph.

Who is Joseph C Filer?

With over two decades of experience, Joseph C. Filer specializes in large-scale fine art landscape photography. His work focuses on capturing atmospheric light and complex compositions that transform physical spaces into immersive natural environments. His curated work spans a range of environments, from coastal regions and wetlands to mountains, deserts, and remote interior landscapes, with each photograph built around clarity, balance, and a strong visual structure.

This approach has made his work desired by collectors, interior designers, and commercial spaces seeking museum-quality landscape photography prints. Across all locations and subjects, the goal remains consistent: to create timeless, atmospheric images that serve as finished wall art, not just photographs of a place.  Learn more about Joseph C. Filer.

Is This Photography AI-Generated?

No. Every Joseph Filer print represents a real-world experience captured through a professional camera lens. We prioritize authentic human observation and the patience required to wait for natural, dramatic lighting over AI-generated imagery.

You will receive a luxury, high-end, museum-quality, limited-edition print that will be a beautiful focal point in your home for years to come.

Will My Print Be Unique?

Yes. I specialize in capturing iconic locations under rare atmospheric conditions. By spending days at a single site, I wait for dramatic lighting and weather that transforms a well-known vista into a one-of-a-kind fine art piece.

Are There Stories Behind the Photographs?

Yes. I always want to share what I was thinking or feeling before taking the photograph. These behind-the-scenes stories allow you to connect with the artwork, resulting in the purchase being more personal to you.

How Do I Purchase One Of Your Prints?

It’s very easy, just two simple steps. First, click on any image to view the available options and pricing, and second, choose a Style, a Size and then Add To Cart. Your transaction is completed using the secure PayPal system, which will give you a confirmation of your order.

What Cameras Do You Use and Why Does That Matter?

To ensure maximum detail in large-scale prints, I utilize the latest high-resolution technology, including three Nikon Z8 46-megapixel mirrorless cameras paired with professional S-series lenses. This technical precision allows for prints up to 120 inches without loss of clarity.

What Styles of Photography Are Offered?

Different landscape scenes call for a different approach. Each has its proper use, but an ultra-wide-angle photograph has a totally different feel than an image taken with mid-range or telephoto lenses.

Likewise, color photographs have a different impact from black and while photographs. Black and white photographs are known to have a very artistic look and feel. Abstract landscapes and Panoramic photography prints are offered to fit any room.

Are Your Prints Limited Edition and Signed?

Yes. Every print carries a Limited Edition of 100, regardless of the style of print. Once that limit has been reached, the print is retired. Each print is digitally signed.

Why Do High-Quality Images Matter?

Purchasing large landscape photography prints with extreme detail requires the photograph to be taken with the best equipment and technique. To produce museum-quality large-format prints, I use high-resolution digital cameras and professional-grade lenses. This ensures that even at sizes up to 120 inches, every detail remains sharp and lifelike, far surpassing standard consumer equipment. Proper technique, including the use of tripods, shutter delays, and long exposures, among other methods, yields the best image for reproduction.

What Styles of Prints are Offered?

We offer three styles of prints, each with its own advantages: All of my prints are limited edition prints with a maximum of 100 prints made of each image, regardless of style. By limiting the number of times each image is printed, its value is increased.

• The Lumachrome® HD Acrylic Print using TruLife® acrylic offers details that appear to emerge in 3D from the depths of the image along with brilliant colors, superior shadow luminosity & detail and a radiant glowing response under proper lighting.

• Chromaluxe® Metal Fine Art Prints will take on a magical luminescence when your images are on them. Colors are vibrant and the luminescence is breathtaking. Detail and resolution are unsurpassed for metal prints..

• Hahnemühle Fine Art Photo Rag® Baryta Prints are the best paper for either Color or Black and White prints. with an inkjet coating specially tailored for Fine Art use.

Do You Offer Free Shipping?

Yes. The price of every Joseph Filer print includes professional crating and free shipping within the United States. We handle the substantial logistics of transporting large-format art to ensure it arrives safely at your door. I can easily ship internationally, but I would need you to contact me for a shipping quote before ordering. If there are any additional costs imposed by the country the print is being shipped to, they would be the buyer's responsibility.

How Is The Print Shipped and How Long Before I Receive It?

Pictured is a large TruLife Acrylic of "Sunset Rock" being crated and prepared for shipping. Your print will be packaged in a protective, professionally prepared shipping container. The type of container will be based on the size and weight of the artwork. Upon receipt, inspect the package and print for any damage. If damage is found, report it to me immediately, along with photos.

Frequently, standard shipping for fine art prints ranges from 2 to 6 weeks. Paper Prints typically arrive sooner, while custom-crafted Lumachrome TruLife Acrylic Prints require 4-6 weeks for meticulous production and secure crating. I will provide the tracking information as soon as it is shipped.

Certificate of Authenticity

I provide a Certificate of Authenticity that includes a serialized hologram and is signed by the artist, Joseph C. Filer. A duplicate of the serialized hologram is included for you to place on the back of the artwork.

Do You Offer Volume Discounts?

In situations where someone wants to purchase more than one print at a time, I have provided them with a discount for doing so. The fine art printers in our business do not provide photographers with such discounts, which does limit what I can do. Depending on the style and size of the prints being purchased, the discount can vary. If you are looking to purchase multiple prints at one time, please send me the details of what you have in mind on my Contact page.

How Do Your Prints Compare To Those In Physical Galleries?

I use only the very best fine art printers in the United States. I have always used the best photographic equipment available. This is combined with my meticulous attention to detail both taking the photo and processing the image in the best software available which results in a final product that is razor sharp and is on a level equal to or above images found in physical galleries.

By not having a brick-and-mortar gallery, I am able to offer the same quality of product at a much lower cost. I am free from the expenses of rent, insurance, managers and employees. My collectors reap the savings.

What Is Your Return Policy For Damaged Prints?

All prints are custom-printed and not held in stock. As a result, once your payment is made, there are no refunds allowed. This is the norm in the custom fine art photography business. If a print arrives damaged, then it will be replaced at no cost to the collector. It is required that I be notified immediately so that the process of notifying the shipping company and replacing the print can be started without delay. If you have a question about a print that would affect its desirability for you, please ask about it BEFORE you order.

How Do I Best Care For and Clean My Print?

First, keeping any artwork in an area of controlled temperature and humidity is of primary importance. Second, you would always want to keep direct sunlight off of any artwork, as it could cause fading of the colors in the print or frame.

The FujiColor paper prints are best matted and framed under glare-resistant glass. Just like the Chromaluxe Metal Prints, the glass or metal can be cleaned with a lint-free microfiber cloth and a soft cleaner such as Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. Cleaners such as Windex work well.

According to the manufacturer's website, the Lumachrome® HD Trulife® Acrylic print should likewise be cleaned with a lint-free microfiber cloth and fragrance-free, dye-free mild dish detergent and distilled water solution. They advise against using glass cleaning sprays or acrylic cleaners.

How Should I Display The Print?

Many of the prints will come with a rear frame and hanging it on the wall is similar to most other artwork and you can probably do it yourself. However, if it is a large and heavy framed piece, you may want to get some help from a friend or use a professional installer.

A naturally well-lit room or other lighting on the print will result in the print looking its best. There are many sources of information on this, and I offer some links to such information regarding my thoughts about lighting on the bottom of my How To Choose page.

Need Help Choosing The Right Size or Frame?

There are many considerations when choosing art to hang on your home or office wall. To help, I have put together a page, How to Choose Fine Art Photography for Your Home, to answer some of the questions regarding color, size and lighting.

Visit our FAQ for answers to common collector questions, or use our search tool to find specific subjects like 'mountain sunrises' or 'coastal abstracts'.
